Advanced Sterile Injectable Dosage Forms
Prefilled syringes are becoming one of the the preferred format for many injectable medications alongside autoinjectors, pens and on-body devices, and the fill-finish process of these delivery formats must ensure the highest sterility and quality standards to protect patient safety.

PCI’s strategy over recent years has focussed on the development and manufacturing of specialized medicines, both highly potent oral dose and advanced sterile injectable products, with all dosage forms being supported by in-house analytical capabilities and extensive packaging solutions from development to commercial launch.
We’ve made sizable investments in recent years and experienced substantial organic growth in our sterile fill-finish service offering. As part of our strategy, enhancing our US capabilities in high potent sterile fill-finish to complement our oral dose capabilities, bolstering our clinical to commercial scale prefilled syringe service solutions in both the United States and Europe has been an important step in terms of meeting our customers’ ongoing needs.
Our latest acquisition marks the first time PCI will deliver prefilled syringe services in the United States, a relatively unique proposition within the CDMO landscape. The technology comprises the OPTIMA H3-10 aseptic multi-purpose filling line delivering clinical to commercial scale processing for ready-to-us (RTU) vials, cartridges and prefilled syringes. Importantly, this technology includes non-destructive weight checks combined with isolator filling and stoppering.
In addition, and as part of an additional $25 million investment in Europe, we are expanding our facility in León, Spain, to include a new filling line for syringes and cartridges. This fully automated line, again equipped with isolator technology, will deliver up to 12,000 units per hour with unsurpassed flexibility and reliability. This investment further enhances the recently completed state-of-the-art development lab for biologic therapies, strengthening PCI’s upstream capabilities and expanding our global CDMO capabilities.
These latest investments are part of a natural evolution in the development, manufacturing, clinical, and commercial packaging of advanced drug delivery systems, including prefilled syringes, cartridges, and autoinjectors with a true focus on patient-centricity to support our global customer base.

This unique offering enables us to manage dynamic client volumes of biopharmaceutical therapies and ultra orphan, niche personalized medicines to large-volume treatments and from clinical development through to commercial launch.
