Sustainability. Our impact.
Carbon footprint & Energy efficiency
With an unwavering focus on reducing our carbon footprint and improving energy efficiency, we are working toward purchasing 100% renewable energy by 2030 and achieving net-zero emissions across our value chain by 2045.
Net Zero Roadmap.
In 2025, PCI developed a detailed Net Zero Roadmap, outlining five key strategic pillars to achieve our science-based emissions reduction targets:
- Energy Efficiency & Process Optimization
- Renewable Energy Transition
- Waste Minimization & Circular Economy
- Water Stewardship & Conservation
- Supply Chain Decarbonization & Scope 3 Reductions
Our Scope 3 Strategy.
With the majority of our carbon emissions residing in Scope 3, we are actively expanding our programs to improve primary data and reduce our emissions in key areas, such as purchased goods and services, transportation, and logistics.
Renewable Energy Transition.
Many of our global sites now source electricity from renewable energy sources, reflecting our continued progress in transitioning to cleaner energy across our operations. Dublin, Berlin, Boston, Bridgend, Hay-On-Wye, the San Diego Clinical Services facility, and Tredegar now purchase 100% renewable electricity.
Energy Intensity.
We actively track and reduce energy intensity across our operations, aligning efficiency initiatives with long-term emissions reduction goals.
Our science-based emissions reduction targets include:
- Reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 47.7% by FY2030 from a FY2023 base year.
- Reduce absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions by 25% by FY2030 from a FY2024 base year.
- Reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 90% by FY2045 from a FY2023 base year.
- Reduce absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions by 90% by FY2045 from a FY2024 base year.
Our renewable energy and energy efficiency targets include:
- Achieve 100% renewable energy purchased by 2030.
- Achieve a 50% reduction in energy intensity, normalized to revenue, by 2030.
Waste management
Efficient waste management is essential for protecting the environment and preserving the future of natural resources. We are focused on increasing recycling rates and reducing waste generation across our operations.
Journey to Zero Waste to Landfill.
Our sites in Berlin, Dublin, Bridgend, Hay-On-Wye, and Tredegar divert 100% of their non-hazardous waste from landfill.
Reusable Shipper Models.
In the US and European markets, we offer reusable thermal packaging solutions that have prevented millions of pounds of waste from entering landfills since 2022 within clinical programs.
We aim to achieve a 33% reduction in non-hazardous waste intensity, normalized to revenue, by 2030.
Water conservation
By implementing water-saving approaches and increasing awareness of responsible use across our operations, we aim to protect natural water reserves and reduce consumption.
Water Risk Assessments.
We plan to conduct basin-level water risk assessments across our sites to help prioritize water conservation efforts.
Water-Saving Approaches.
Action plans are in place to reduce water consumption, with pilot initiatives underway at select sites, including low-flow systems and other conservation technologies.
We aim to achieve a 50% reduction in consumption intensity, normalized to revenue, by 2030.
Labor, human rights & ethics
Respect for human rights underpins how we operate across our organization and value chain. By ensuring employees, contractors, and consultants are trained, and adhere to our human rights commitments, we aim to create a safe, respectful, and responsible working environment.
Commitment to Human Rights.
Respect for human rights is a fundamental value for us, guiding how we operate and engage across our organization.
Supply Chain Due Diligence.
We are implementing policies, actions, and measurements to prevent negative environmental and social impacts throughout every stage of our supply chain.
We are committed to ensuring 100% of our employees are trained on our Code of Ethics and other human rights-related policies.
Community impact
Through structured giving and volunteering programs, we seek to drive positive, lasting change.
Corporate Donation Matching.
We partnered with a third-party to establish a formal giving strategy focused on increasing participation and impact year-over-year across sites with corporate matching.
Volunteering in Local Communities.
Employees are eligible for up to eight hours per year of company-sponsored volunteer time to support meaningful community engagement.
We aim to encourage and build strategic community partnerships, promote STEM education, support employee engagement, and share community impact stories.
In line with this commitment, we aim to provide eight hours of company-paid volunteer time annually for employees and offer corporate matching support for eligible donations to approved non-profit organizations.
Sustainable procurement
We prioritize suppliers that share our commitment to sustainability, responsible sourcing, and waste reduction through ethical procurement practices.
Sustainable Procurement Program.
Our Sustainable Procurement Program prioritizes recyclable materials, waste reduction, and ethical sourcing, supporting our commitment to a Net-Zero Scope 3 value chain by 2045.
Scaling EcoVadis Assessments.
We have set expectations for top-spend suppliers to complete EcoVadis assessments as part of our broader supplier engagement strategy.
We aim to achieve a Net-Zero Scope 3 value chain by 2045 and are committed to ensuring 100% of our top suppliers acknowledge the PCI Supplier Code of Conduct, and 80% of top-spend suppliers engage with the EcoVadis platform by 2027.
Health, safety & security
We strive to create a healthy and safe working environment conducive to a workforce thriving and maintaining good work–life integration. Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) is the cornerstone of our global operations, underpinning our business growth and sustained success, in addition to taking a holistic health approach that integrates both physical and mental wellness.
Safety as Our Highest Priority.
We have established a structured, standardized approach to Environmental Health and Safety across all sites, reinforcing a strong safety culture.
Mental Health First Aiders.
We have implemented a Mental Health First Aiders program across our sites to provide support and resources for employees.
Reduce our Global Lost Time Incident Rate (LTIR) with a LTIR at or below half of US Bureau of Labor Statistics industry average for Pharma Industry.
Inclusive culture
Our approach to inclusion and belonging is rooted in our respect for diverse ideas, experiences, and contributions. PCI actively promotes an inclusive environment to nurture a culture where everyone feels valued and recognized for their contributions and potential.
Supporting Parents.
We offer initiatives that support parental responsibilities and encourage successful return to work, including dedicated mothers’ rooms at select sites.
Global Inclusion Calendar.
We launched an internal Inclusion Calendar to recognize international and local events that celebrate diversity and empowerment.
Progressing responsibly, we embrace our sustainability commitments with passion and humility, protecting our values of accountability, flexibility, and excellence as we help our customers and the public at large.
